Andy Anderson came to Seldovia, Alaska as a teenager to spend a summer. He fell in love with the state and stayed. Andy, raised on a farm in southern Illinois, was the youngest of six boys and quit school and joined the workforce at sixteen years old. Tiring of farm work, he traveled to Alaska and worked in a number of different jobs: king crab cannery, king crab fishing, heavy equipment operation, logging, and construction. He operated all types of heavy equipment and ran tugboats and diving boats in oil related jobs in Cook Inlet. One summer Andy operated a tug out of Prudhoe Bay, tendering for a seismograph crew. In 1979 he took the position as police chief for the city of Seldovia, and held the position for nearly 32 years.
