This fairy tale - is a literary exposition of one of the numerous plots, known as the story of Beauty and Monster. The author himself had heard it for many times in his childhood told by his house-keeper Pelageia and after her he tells it in a folk language in a form of a lyric melodious tale. The fairy tale became the most published work by Aksakov.
