Economists have traditionally viewed their discipline as logical and scientific, with theory backed up by rigourous mathematical reasoning and statistical evidence. Against this background there has been little room for the study of language and rhetoric in the discussion and analysis of economic problems. This ebook entitled "e;Language and Economics"e; is a contribution towards addressing this imbalance. A number of scholars explore the impact of language on economic thought, both in terms of public discourse on policy issues as well as more specialised literature such as textbooks and academic publications. A number of different schools of thought in economics are represented, alongside varied approaches in linguistics. Geographically, papers span Eastern and Western Europe, the United States and the Middle East. Subjects range from the use of metaphor in economic education and discourse, corpus approaches, key-word analysis to concepts such as growth, entrepreneurship and human capital as well as the language of central bank communication.
