Description
Through the analysis of the mass graves exhumations of the Spanish Civil War that took place in the 70s and 80s, this book offers a new perspective on memory practices prior to the "forensic turn". Based on interviews, personal archives and extensive fieldwork, this study explores the ways in which relatives exhumed the remains by their own means, analyses photographic documentation and its invisibility, and examines the rediscovery of this exhumation phase in the 2000s. In doing so, De Kerangat seeks to unsettle some of the common acceptations around memory initiatives like the exhumations of the victims of political violence.
