Description
By using photons as the photonic implementation of quantum bits, quantum communication offers a secure communication based on the laws of physics. In order to enable the buildup of global interlinks and quantum networks, compact, cost- and energy-efficient quantum light sources are of need.
In this regard, this study examines the development of classical and non-classical light sources for quantum key distribution applications. Special focus is given to:
-Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers emitting at 850 nm with integrated polarization control mechanism for quantum key distribution via the BB84 and decoy state protocol.
-Electrically driven InGaAs quantum dot-based devices with emission around 1.31 µm.
-Micro-electromechanical systems tunable cavities around 1.31 µm at cryogenic temperatures.
