Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces for 6G

Dr Zhengyu Zhu is with the School of Information Engineering, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China. since July 2017. received the Ph.D. (Hons.) degree in information engineering from Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China, in 2017. From October 2013 to October 2015, he visited the Wireless Communication Laboratory, Korea University, Seoul, South Korea, to conduct a collaborative research as a Visiting Student. He is currently a Lecturer with Zhengzhou University. His research interests include information theory and signal processing for wireless communications such as 5G, the Internet of Things, machine learning, multiple-input multiple-output wireless networks, physical layer security, wireless cooperative networks, convex optimization techniques, and energy harvesting communication systems. Currently, he has authored/co-authored 50+ journal and conference papers with 600+ citations (h-index of 13 in Google Scholar profile: ), where one journal paper have been classified as ESI Highly Cited Paper. He is Member of IEEE. Dr.Qingqing Wu (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng. degree in electronic engineering from the South China University of Technology in 2012 and the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in 2016. From 2016 to 2020, he was a Research Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, University of Macau. He has coauthored more than 100 IEEE journal articles with 26 ESI highly cited papers and eight ESI hot papers, which have received more than 16,000 Google citations. He was listed as the Clarivate ESI Highly Cited Researcher in 2022 and 2021, the Most Influential Scholar Award in AI-2000 by Aminer in 2021, and World's Top 2% Scientist by Stanford University in 2020 and 2021. His current research interests include intelligent reflecting surface, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications, and MIMO transceiver design. He was a recipient of the IEEE Communications Society Asia Pacific Best Young Researcher Award and Outstanding Paper Award in 2022, the IEEE Communications Society Young Author Best Paper Award in 2021, the outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Award of China Institute of Communications in 2017, the Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Funding in SJTU in 2016, the IEEE ICCC Best Paper Award in 2021, and the IEEE WCSP Best Paper Award in 2015.

Dr Zheng Chu is with the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), University of Surrey, U.K. since Nov. 2017. He was with the Faculty of Science and Technology, Middlesex University, London, U.K. from 2016 to 2017. He received Msc. and Ph.D. degrees in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Newcastle University, U.K., in 2012 and 2016, respectively. He is Member of IEEE, and Fellow of The Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

His current research interests include smart radio environments, smart reflecting surfaces, 5G/6G communication networks, unmanned aerial vehicle communication, machine learning, wireless physical layer security, and anti-jamming communication. He has published research papers on topics such as reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, phase shift, additive noise, MIMO, optimization problems, alternating optimization, beamforming design, simulation results, multiple-input single-output (MISO), non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), and semidefinite relaxation.
