Description
Hybrid systems have become a very active research area. Most technical systems are in fact hybrid, containing both continuous dynamics and discrete elements, but this aspect has not been given much attention until recently, when the techniques of continuous dynamics and control and computer science have been used. The application of such research to topics such as inventory control and batch processes are considered in the papers included in this volume. This publication results from a peer-reviewed selection of the papers presented at the fourth international conference on the Automation of Mixed Processes held in Dortmund in September 2000.
