Serving the Disabled

Accidents, illness and ageing mean that almost everyone is disabled at some point in life. This book aims to provide a fresh perspective on library service to the disabled, beginning with the definition of the term, "disabled", and society's stereotypes. Subsequent chapters address making the library facilities accessible to those with physical handicaps, adapting the workplace itself, integrating special materials into the collection, and developing programmes and services for the disabled. It concludes with a look into the future and the impact of new formats and the electronic information age upon service to the disabled.
