Description
Since the automatic picking replaced manual sorting at the beginning of the 1990s, sensor-based sorting has developed rapidly over the past 30 years and became an essential technology in processing primary and secondary raw materials. In the last years, the hardware in sensor-based sorting has been further improved, e.g. the application of higher-resolution sensors and the implementation of multi-sensor systems. Besides, the requirement in throughput, purity and accuracy became higher and the material composition is more and more complex. Sensors are also used to monitor material flows and control the entire process chains to enable automatic process control. These challenges can be overcome through improvement in different aspects: from feeding system over data processing algorithms to separation unit. The latest solutions and findings, extension of application areas and new developments are key aspects of the international conference "Sensor-Based Sorting & Control 2020". Organizers are the Unit of Mineral Processing (AMR) and the Department of Processing and Recycling (I.A.R.) of RWTH Aachen University as well as Freunde des IME e.V. and RWTH International Academy.
