Description
Praise for Burrows...
"Wortham combines the gonzo sen-sibility of Joe R. Lansdale and the elegiac mood of To Kill a Mockingbird."
-Publishers Weekly starred review
Constable Ned Parker comes out of retirement when Center Springs, Texas, becomes the latest stop for a murderer. Ned's nephew Cody is the new Constable and a Vietnam vet. When a dead man is found hooked to fishing lines in the river, a lead points to the long-abandoned Cotton Exchange warehouse in nearby Chisum. The building is a hoarder's paradise: each floor stuffed to the ceiling with garbage, furniture, books, tools, tires, rats, and filth. But it is also host to booby-traps, shafts, and bales. Was this lair built out of desperation or designed to torture and kill anyone trying to capture the elusive killer?
As a boy, Reavis Z. Wortham hunted and fished the river bottoms near Chicota, Texas, the inspiration for Center Springs. His novel The Rock Hole was named one of 2011's best books by Kirkus Reviews. He and his wife Shana live in Texas.
