Description
Sustainable environmental development is one of the core concepts of the 1990's. How this concept can be turned into a reality is the theme of the book. Its focus is the ways in which sustainable environmental development can be implemented and managed. This theme is explored from four contrasting perspectives: part 1 investigates the economic perspectives, covering the approaches of both the old orthodox economics and the new economics. Part 2 surveys business perspectives, reviewing business-environment relations and particular industrial sectors. Part 3 examines the planning perspectives at scales ranging from the global and international, through the urban scale to the local level. Finally, part 4 investigates the political perspectives, covering not only the contemporary debates in environmental politics, but also the broader politics of sustainable development. The result is a study of the full range of perspectives towards implementing and managing sustainable environmental development.
