Description
The author was born on 19 February 1953, only child of Kurt and Ursula Wiesner in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. He went to primary school from 1958 to 1962 and then to secondary school from 1962 to 1969. From 1969 to 1973 he graduated as a laboratory technician at Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg and worked there as a specialist for rubber material until 1993. From 1993 until to 2005 he was responsible for standardization of material. From 2005 up to 2011 he was manager for standardization of the Volkswagen factory. He retired in November 2011. The author was married to Ingrid Wiesner, which passed away in January 2019. They have no children.
The entomological experiences of the author include working on Alticinae, Chrysomelidae in 1969 in secondary school, and later introduced to the Cicindelidae by Prof. Dr. Karl Mandl from 1973 to 1977. Wiesner has published 168 scientific papers, 156 of dealing with tiger beetles. For these studies he visited and studied the fauna of Portugal, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece, the Emirates, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Réunion, Mauritius, Sumatra, New Zealand and New Caledonia.
