Description
The author challenges the assertion that the study of the past has no bearing on the nature of the current problems of unemployment. She argues that the nature of unemployment has changed since the Industrial Revolution and stresses the links between past and present treatment of the unemployed. Whiteside suggests that unemployment as a social problem, can only be understood within an historical framework. She is the co-author of "Casual Labour".
