Recovery from Trauma

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a distressing condition suffered by disaster victims. However, although the big catastrophes are the ones that make the headlines, the number of people affected by these disasters is relatively few. Personal disaters like road accidents or personal attack are very much more common and their victims are often just as traumatized and in need of help. These victims are increasingly referred to clinicians for help - but since they have only recently been recognized to be in need of specialist help, there is little material for the professional to draw upon. This work provides a sourcebook for the professional to work with when dealing with these clients. Clinical discussion of each aspect of treatment is included along with exercises and strategies that can be used directly with the client, thereby interrupting the cycle of intrusion, cognitive appraisal, avoidance and repeated intrusion.
