Description
This book looks beyond the limit of certainty which has long been taken as a defining characteristic of science. Beyond certainty lies complexity. How can complexity be addressed in the framework of science? What can science of complexity mean? The first and basic principle is that we recognize that it is not the method which determines the object but vice versa. We have to start from the object of complexity and derive methodology from it. This basic principle determines New Science. Rules of predefined systems become principles of probability which comprehend the whole of the object by integration: human beings as dialogic individuals in the stream of life. Starting from the mind of human beings, these principles unite the range of different disciplines, from science to philosophy, and aim to achieve the unity of science. Insights from natural sciences represent the verifying basis, results from human sciences demonstrate how the basis of sociobiology is shaped in human action and behaviour in a world of non-equilibrium. Philosophy can finally give guidance to a humane way of life.
Reviews / Votes
Principles of New Science: Dialogue in the stream of life is a timely, intellectually mature, and highly original work. Edda Weigand offers a compelling dialogic and holistic account of science, philosophy, language, and human action, showing how meaning emerges within the complexity of lived experience. Clear, rigorous, and rich in examples, the book is a significant contribution to dialogue studies, pragmatics, and contemporary reflections on human understanding. -- Yael Mishani-Uval, Bar-Ilan UniversityMore details
