Stepping Out of the Shadows

This study examines the role of women in the education system at first and second level in Ireland. The context is an education system where major changes are taking place. The anomaly of the increasing presence of women in leadership roles is explored. The observation that "women teach and men manage" has become more rather than less evident in the Irish system of education. The book explores issues relating to the career patterns of men and women in education and highlights the need for strategic and policy decisions to counteract the pressures in the system that contribute to the current imbalance.
