The Weight of Silence

Jacob Keller is seventeen and counting down, not to graduation or escape, but to the moment his body or mind finally gives out. He survives in his uncle's Baltimore apartment on sporadic meals and inconsistent seizure medication, finding his only refuge in music composed on a broken keyboard during stolen moments. The piano is sometimes the only voice he has.

Logan Weston, sixteen, knows how to perform stability. A brilliant student with Type 1 diabetes and medical school ambitions, he maintains perfect numbers on paper while quietly destroying his health through exhaustion and relentless pressure.

For three years at Edgewood High School, they've orbited each other in a tense rhythm of closeness and withdrawal. Jacob pushes Logan away whenever care gets too close; Logan refuses to stop noticing Jacob's deterioration, even as he ignores his own.
