From the Author: When Beauty Hides Darkness
Hidden Beneath the Pines grew out of three threads: my love for Southern Oregon's wild places, the unsettling true-crime stories on Dateline, and a confession from a childhood friend. As kids, I never knew my green-eyed friend was suffering abuse at home; no one around her did. Years later she told me what happened, a hidden terror that left deep scars and a hunger for justice. That revelation changed how I saw the quiet houses we pass every day and the secrets they can hide. Set in the beautiful yet isolating forests of Southern Oregon, Hidden Beneath the Pines explores secrecy, resilience, and the search for truth. I hope it keeps you turning pages to the end.

Persons
Mike Walters writes emotionally charged mystery and suspense fiction rooted in the landscapes of Southern Oregon. Hidden Beneath the Pines grew out of three things: a lifelong love of the Oregon wilderness, a fascination with the true-crime stories on Dateline, and a conversation with a childhood friend that changed how he sees the secrets families keep. A former U.S. Air Force photographer who has traveled to all 50 states, Mike brings a keen observer's eye to characters navigating trauma, buried secrets, and the hard work of survival. He has published five novels, including Memories of an Ash Covered Sky, The Good Sheriff, and The Rogue River Incident duology. When he's not writing, Mike can be found mountain biking, hiking, or photographing the Oregon wilderness he calls home. He lives in Southern Oregon.
