Paul E. Walker is a historian of ideas with a special interest in Islamic thought. His previous books include Early Philosophical Shi'ism (Cambridge, 1993), The Wellsprings of Wisdom (Salt Lake City, 1994), Ahu Ya'qub al-Sijistani: Intellectual Missionary (I. B. Tauris. 1996), Hamid al-Din al-Kirrnani: Ismaili Thought in the Age of al-Hdkini (I. B. Tauris, 1999), and with Wilferd Madelung, An Ismaili Heresiography (Leiden, 1998) and The Advent of the Fatimids: A Contemporary Shi'i Witness (I. B. Tauris, 2000). His translation of Imam al-I-aramayn al-Juwayni's classic manual of Sunni theology, al-Irshad (A Guide to Conclusive Proofs for the Principles of Belief), appeared recently (Garnet Publishing, 2001). He is currently Visiting Scholar in the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago.
