Description
Based on the authors experience in teaching this subject for two decades, this book covers the basics of particle-atom interaction, the resulting radiation 'damage', and the changes in mechanical behavior of irradiated metals and alloys. The only source of fundamental knowledge for nuclear engineering in the 21st century.
Based on the authors experience in teaching this subject for over 20 years, this book covers the basics of particle-atom interaction for a range of particle types, the amount and spatial extent of the resulting radiation 'damage', the physical effects of irradiation and the changes in mechanical behavior of irradiated metals and alloys. Starting with the radiation damage event, the book goes on to look at the displacements of atoms and irradiation-induced defects, with a whole section on bubbles and voids. Further chapters deal with segregation and precipitation, hardening, fracture and embrittlement as well as creep and growth. The resulting work is the only source of fundamental knowledge for nuclear engineering in the 21st century.
