Democracy in an Age of Globalization

What is the significance of "Democracy" in the actual process of worldwide globalization? How democratic are the various ruling systems acting in the so called western world in reality? Which role does democracy play within the influencial religions and confessions? How was the interaction between the kind of political rulership and ancient cultures and religions? How influential are the massmedia and social networks within our modern societies?
In a bilateral conference of scholars from the Faculty for Catholic Theology of the University of Innsbruck / Austria and Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune / India, held in May 2012 in Innsbruck, we tried to come closer to these complex questions of a very emotional social field by discussing papers, statements and theses. The results of the common discussions are published in this book.
