This text presents the most up-to-date knowledge in the field of hand surgery. All papers published herein were presented for publication in late 1994 and early 1995 and will be of interest to all medical doctors treating hand surgery. The International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) was established almost 30 years ago in 1966. Today the IFSSH has 45 member countries and more than 5,000 members. The emphasis was placed on teaching in the Helsinki Congress and 150 renowned hand specialists were invited to share their expertise. The published manuscripts contained herein are based on the papers presented at the assembly. It is believed that readers will find new useful ideas and will be stimulated to implement improved methods for the diagnosis and treatment of hand disorders.
