Sharing the Difference

Until recently, feminist theory was dominated by thinkers and activists in Britain, the US and France. Now students are having to look further afield to get a true picture of the state of play in women's studies today. For ten years the women's studies journal "Tijdschrift voor Vrouwenstudies" has been the focus for the open-minded work of Dutch feminists as they grappled with the need to play their part in the international feminist movement and understand the role of feminist theory in their own society. This volume of essays by leading Dutch feminists, selected from the journal, celebrates the tenth anniversary of the "Tijdschrift". Focussing on four main themes, equality versus difference, theory and history, the body, French thought and psychoanalysis, the collection charts the history of women's studies in Holland over the last decade and the role of Dutch women in the construction of a feminist theory for the 1990s. This book should be of interest to students and teachers of women's studies.
