The Divine Comedy

An alternative to the popular Longfellow edition, this version translated by Rev. Cary offers full study notes that help us to understand the background and social climate that inspired certain phrases within the Divine Comedy. Just like the original, the narrator is taken through the various layers of Hell seeing all the people that end up in certain places before being taken to the realm of Purgatory to witness the purification of people who are not quite deserving of Heaven yet. Lastly, he is taken to Paradise to witness the glory of the heavenly realms before being taken into the very presence of God.
