Description
This is the world out of the corner of your eye.
From seaside towns seen from the other side of an unhappy morning to the mysteries of things floating in sunlit pools, from a gentlemen's club where discussion centres around a cursed ruby to the ghosts that follow us wherever we run, these are the places we fall to when our directions are gone and our steps lead us awry.
This reprint of Simon Kurt Unsworth's first collection contains eighteen stories, including the World Fantasy Award-nominated 'The Church on the Island', and a new foreword with revised story notes.
Welcome to the places you hope you'll never find...

Simon Kurt Unsworth is the author of two novels, The Devil's Detective and The Devil's Evidence, and three collections of stories, Strange Gateways, Quiet Houses and Lost Places. He was born in Manchester in 1972 and has not yet given searching for evidence that the world was awash with mysterious signs and portents that day, but now lives in Cumbria where it has rained almost every day since his arrival, and somewhere in the midst of the mud and the damp and the sheep he writes whatever comes into his head.
