Trade and Development Report 1996

This report explores the interaction of trends in the international economy with the prospects of developing countries. It compares current economic performance with that of preceding years, and examines future economic prospects at the regional and global levels. In doing so, it sheds light on some of the pressing policy issues facing developing countries and the international community as a whole. The 1996 report focuses on the essential ingredients of successful development strategies, bearing in mind the growing importance of globalization and liberalization. The Asian development experience is also examined, and how the national economies have interacted with each other through patterns of trade and investment that have enhanced the growth and development of all.
