Description
The management of libraries and information centres has become more complicated. Some of the complexity arises from the use of technology, and the trend towards integration means that it becomes more difficult to plan and consider activities in isolation: each forms part of a system, and changes in one may affect others. The manager of a library or information centre must, therefore, be able to use a variety of planning techniques and be flexible in management style. Mr Underwood has not confined his book to a discussion of computer problems, although these certainly form part of the discussion, and have been used quite frequently as examples. The book has a wider focus, however, and concentrates more on the managerial role of systems work.
