Description
Diffractive optics is widely recognized as an important growth area and enabling technology in modern optics. The control of optical fields by microstructured media, which is the essence of diffractive optics, opens up a large number of new avenues in optical research. Only a small fraction of the potential of diffractive optics has been employed to date. Established or highly promising technological applications have been selected for this book in order to act as incentives for further industrial activity. Without using complex mathematics, this book explains what diffractive optics is and what it can do. In the opening chapter, the fundamental principles of diffractive optics are explained in some detail, as well as the appropriate design and fabrication schemes. The chapters that follow each concentrate on a particular subject in the field of diffractive optics.
