Description
This title tells the story of Richard Noble's attempt to break the sound barrier on land. On 25 September 1997 in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, Noble's twin-jet-propelled car, "Thrust SSC" set a new world land speed record of 714 miles per hour. Just 19 days later, "Thrust" went supersonic, as driver Andy Green accelerated to a speed of 764mph, travelling faster than the speed of sound. The book details how the project came about, from the initial design and trials, through many financial and technical setbacks, to becoming the fastest vehicle on land. It tells of Noble's struggle for corporate sponsorship, and the other hurdles that Noble and Green, backed up by a team of designers, engineers and technicians, had to overcome.
