Engaging, interesting, and digestible. In Literacy in the Early Grades, Gail Tompkins connects research with praxis and attends to the task of providing effective literacy instruction for diverse learners. It is focused on how teachers work in everyday classrooms with a grand variety of learners to provide effective, meaningful, and important literacy learning opportunities. Tompkins writes in a personable, yet professional voice that treats undergraduate teacher candidate as thoughtful members of the teaching community. -- Brian E. Maguire, Clarion University of Pennsylvania This is one of my students' favorite textbooks. I hear about how much they like it all the time. It is easy to follow and very inviting to the reader. Specific topics are easy to find when my students have concerns in their own classrooms. They use the textbook as a reference long after the course is completed. -- Kathleen J. Sanders, Fort Hays StateMore details
