Del Raddoppiamento da Parola a Parola

In this work, the author conveys his sense of excitement regarding his discovery of "syntactic doubling", exploring the links between the spoken word and the literary language, and between the phonology and poetic metre. This critical edition, in Italian and from the unpublished manuscript, should be of interest to scholars in Renaissance studies and modern linguistics. The introduction discusses the dating and reception of the work, and Tolomei's description of syntactic doubling. It also comprises a description of this feature in modern Tuscan speech along with a critical bibliography of studies in the field, up to and including generative approaches.
