A leading international scholar of media, he has written numerous books on Australian politics and the mass media, including How Australia Compares (with Ross Gittins, 2009) and Scandals: Media, Politics and Corruption in Contemporary Australia (1999). He was a member of the Finkelstein Independent Media Inquiry that reported in 2012.
