Description
Software configuration management (SCM) is the discipline of controlling evolving software systems - a collection of techniques which identify and control changes to software being developed by a team of programmers. It is an established subfield of software engineering, and one that provides recognized benefits to software developers and managers. This examination of the field contains a survey of industrial SCM tools; a description of specific integrated SCM systems such as DSEE, ODIN, SHAPE, ADELE and PCTE; and SCM algorithms and techniques such as remote installation tools, delta storage and transaction mechanisms.
