Transgressing Culture Lines improves teaching and learning environments by focusing on the following concepts: - That we must Transgress, move beyond, the generalizations resulting from culturally relevant pedagogical practices.and towards personally relevant pedagogical practices.
- That culture may begin with family traditions, history, etc. but evolves with each new individual experience -- becoming a culture of one
- That personally relevant pedagogical practices help teachers make stronger connections between each student's existing knowledge and the new information we want them to learn
- That this philosophy of teaching and learning results in more student engagement and helps to empower students to take more ownership of their learning.
