When we begin to think about the animal kingdom and our impact on it, there is much to reflect on. In this book, animals express their thoughts and feelings through short poems - their hopes, their fears, the petty irritations and the more deadly problems caused by human beings.
As we read and look at the colourful illustrations, we can also spend a little time thinking about how we respond to them: some animals seem proud, scary, self-sufficient or needy. Some we find it very easy to love and care for. Some we find hard to understand or difficult to approach.
The only thing we can be certain of is that they are all interesting in their different ways and deserve our everlasting admiration and respect.

Desmond Thomas is the author of a range of educational textbooks and books for teachers. He has worked for most of his life teaching in Brazil, Japan, Turkey and Eastern Europe but now lives in Colchester UK. He is married and has a granddaughter already addicted to books at the age of two.
Sue Thomas studied Fine Art at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. After leaving, she initially completed illustration projects for Mary Glasgow Publications but went on to work as a fashion illustrator. She then moved to Sussex and worked for a provincial auctioneers where she helped organise the picture sales. She is now retired, lives in East Sussex, and is enjoying a return to illustrating for pleasure.
