Description
"Thinking Through Science" is a series of ten activity books for the National Curriculum and the GCSE balanced and co-ordinated science courses. There are three books each, for biology, chemistry and physics, and one to cover topics in the earth sciences. The activities in the books incorporate problem-solving, decision-making and the selection, interpretation and presentation of data. They have been chosen to match the four profile components to be included in the National Curriculum for science: knowledge and understanding; technological and social aspects of science; communication; and exploration and investigation. Book 1 in each of biology, chemistry and physics assume little or no background knowledge and are suitable for use in foundation courses and cover the statements of attainment for the average 14 year olds. Books 2 and 3 make increasing demands on fourth and fifth year students covering GCSE single subject and balanced science courses as well as statements of attainment for 16 year olds. The earth science book covers the statements of attainment for this area of the curriculum. The evaluation packs are designed to help teachers appraise "Thinking Through Science".
Each pack contains one biology, one chemistry, and one physics book and a teacher's guide. There are evaluation packs available for each level.
