Description
Industrie 4.0 (I4.0) is on the horizon and will open the door to numerous possibilities and opportunities in industrial productions. One of many keys vital to I4.0 is local data storage. In this dissertation, a novel magnetic storage system suitable for local data storage is presented. The system consists of the flexible write head with the heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) capability, the read head and the read/write platform. The flexible write head and the read head is developed based on hard disk drive technology and fabricated by means of thin film and fine mechanical processes. The HAMR is realized using a compact laser source and optomechanical components. The functioning system is characterized and the recording is done on the magnetic medium. The recorded data tracks are visualized through a magneto-optical microscope. The examination of the data tracks reveals the magnetic transitions from which important recording parameters are extracted and used to create the models of the magnetic transitions. The evaluation of this novel system and the obtained results indicates the feasibility of the local magnetic data storage for use in industrial applications.
