Nineteen-year-old Elisabeth can finally breathe.
Her cosy cabin is quiet. Isolated. Safe. She is determined to be alone - far away from everyone she knows and the memories that haunt her.
When a snowstorm plunges the town into darkness, Elisabeth reluctantly accepts help from Noah, the town's young sheriff. As the two grow close, Elisabeth begins to realise that she can't stay hidden forever; embracing the dark might be the only way to let the light in.

Reviews / Votes
'Heartfelt, human and true. I loved it.' Markus Zusak, bestselling author of The Book Thief 'Allison Sweet Grant is a natural storyteller with the keen eye and ear of a poet... I Am the Cage is a story of love, resilience, and healing. What a beautiful, moving, and insightful debut.' Maggie Smith, bestselling author of You Could Make This Place Beautiful 'Deftly explores medical trauma. The accuracy we might expect - [Grant's] background is as a pyschiatric nurse practitioner - but the lyricism is a delightful surprise. This is a quiet, thoughtful book that delves into pain, and what we might today call medical gaslighting... This elegant novel. Read with tissues, and sticky-notes to mark the bits that are particularly eloquent on chronic pain.' Claire Hennessy for the Irish TimesMore details
