The Explorers face technological challenges, psychological strain and the ever present danger of the unknown. Meanwhile, Anya's husband Gustof, an agricultural researcher for the Guild, struggles with loneliness and paranoia back on Earth. His green house is sabotaged with a hallucinogenic spore, leading to a tense investigation that reveals a conspiracy inside the Guild. Throughout all of this Anya and Gustof's love and psychic bond endures across the cosmos and, together with Sulligan they address humanity, affirming a new era of exploration, cooperation and hope for the future.
