Description
In this colorful read-aloud picture book, Roxy is a lovable three-legged dog nervous about starting school and wearing her new prosthesis. Clementine the pig befriends her, but "Tully the Bully" steals Roxy's bone and makes fun of her leg. The other animals hear what he says and join Roxy in telling Tully his words are hurtful. Tully realizes he is wrong, apologizes, and learns that words matter. Roxy's new adventure teaches us that words are powerful and that it is never okay to speak badly to others. The reader learns that what you say and how you say it can have a very strong impact.

Hillary Sussman has been a physical therapist for 23 years. After working with so many clients with disabilities, she was inspired by her dog, Roxy, who has undergone four surgeries, to use her story to help kids who are different to gain more confidence and overcome their physical limitations. The idea just made sense...kids would identify with Roxy and realize, like her, that they should not let those limitations stop them from having a full and exciting life.
This is Hillary's first book, but she is planning a whole series featuring Roxy's adventures, with the delightful pup learning something new in each book, meeting new friends, and facing new challenges.
Originally from New York, Hillary lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, three children and dog. Her hobbies include jump roping, traveling, and skiing.
