Description
This book brings together the solution of a wide range of closed circular ring problems which have applications in mechanical and structural engineering. It derives the stresses and deformations which occur in a closed, thin-walled ring component which subject to loads acting in its plane. Tables and curves are produced for the most important loading situations. These enable a range of problems, which occur in practice, to be solved easily, quickly and reliably, either directly or by superimposing some of the load situations described. The book is divided into two main sections. Section one contains the theoretical principles based upon mathematics and applied mechanics as taught to engineers. There are some examples and common methods for dealing with the threefold internally statically indeterminate system. Using these procedures other problems can be solved independently. Section two contains formulae and tables. It is intended for the practising engineer who needs to determine the distribution of moments, transverse forces and loop forces around the periphery of the closed ring for a specific load situation.
