Description
Agroforestry is seen by many as a solution to environmental problems and as a sustainable enterprise particularly suited to farmers with limited resources. Previously however there has been little attempt to quantify and value its advantages in terms of better use of resources, soil erosion control or multiple products. This book provides an economic assessment of agroforestry at the levels of the individual farm, the household, the institution and society as a whole. It particularly focuses on cost-benefit analysis as a method of appraisal and uses case studies from Africa and South-East Asia to illustrate practical procedures. The book should be of interest to those working in the areas of agricultural policy, forestry, resource economics and development studies.
