Not too far away, his parents owned a wildlife discovery center where he would run around after hours and let the animals out. His books include If You Make a Call on a Banana Phone, The Midnight Fair, I Will Read to You, and Treehouse Town.
Nik Henderson was raised in Strafford, Missouri, on a small hobby farm surrounded by chickens, goats, ducks, and horses. Inspired by the hillside of the Ozarks, he began drawing and painting at a young age. He studied illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. The artist still lives in Strafford.
