This volume is one of a series of seven that together cover the history of the art of the entire world. The underlying principle of the series is to present the art of all cultural regions on an equal footing. From the cave paintings of Chauvet (approximately 25,000 years old) through the marble idols of Tell Asmar in Iraq (approximately 2600 BCE) and the Nok terracottas of Nigeria (6th century BCE) to Rodin's "Gates of Hell" (1880 - 1917), the series covers virtually the entire history of mankind. Each volume covers in detail a selection of 50 outstanding works from the relevant region. Each book also includes an introduction outlining the important aspects of the cultures represented and features detailed analyses.
