Reviews / Votes
The story-telling is simple and direct, but Steig's characters are articulate and reflective and the vocabulary is challenging. It is the kind of writing that doesn't bend down to younger readers, but rather encourages them to reach up * The School Librarian * Steig's captivating style and tongue-in-cheek humor bring to life an endearing set of animal characters with some extremely human foibles * Booklist * Steig's books are like perfect smooth stones, complete in themselves, with no seams to be found... he always has the skill to bring together what seems to be a lot of spur-of-the-moment choices and make them into stories that land so perfectly and satisfyingly and feel so inevitable in their endings -- Jon Klassen, author of This Is Not My Hat * Guardian * Each delightful story is exquisite in the telling and the witty illustrations perfectly complement the narration * Carousel * Impossible to resist * Kirkus Reviews * In this age of poorly thought out endings to books, it's a treat to end with one of Steig's many stunning last lines * LA Times *
