Stamp has a living relationship to the subject of this book, and with his fellow editor Sam McKinstry he has revealed a rich stratum of local knowledge and concern with Thomson and the city in and around which he carried out all of his work. Gavin Stamp is a Lecturer in Architectural History at the Glasgow School of Art, Chairman of the Alexander Thomson Society, architectural critic, and author of Temples of Power and Robert Weir Schultz and his Work for the Marquesses of Bute. Sam McKinstry is a Professor in the Department of Accounting and Languages at the University of Paisley. He is Honorary Treasurer of the Alexander Thomson Society, and author of Rowand Anderson: The Premier Architect of Scotland.
