Description
The map location of some 470 additional genes has been added since the 1990 update of this manual, bringing the total to about 2350 genes, representing roughly 5% of all functional human genes. For the first time, a fairly large number of physical and linkage maps are included in the report. Of considerable interest to many workers in the field is the report of the DNA Committee. This includes a listing of nearly 7000 polymorphic DNA segments, 1530 clones and mapped genes, many markers and DNA polymorphisms formatted for PCR. The catalogue of human gene names and their official symbols is updated, as are reports on gene linkage and gene order, human and mouse genes, homologies, general comparative gene mapping, chromosome rearrangements in neoplasia, chromosome and gene loss in human neoplasia, clinical disorders and chromosome deletion syndromes, the location of 114 fragile chromosome sites and data on 55 mitochondrial genes.
