Description
This fascinating book of over 200 old photographs depicts scenes, people and events from everyday life in Lutterworth and the surrounding villages, from a period of more than one hundred years. Many of the photographs included in this book come from the collection at the Lutterworth Museum, where the author is manager.
One of the earliest photographs featured in the book shows Lutterworth in 1878 and there are scenes too of street parties, jubilee celebrations and sports day events. Some memorable individuals are also captured, including Sir Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine, Dr Davis from George Street and Old Joe, the Pailton Miser.
Scenes from the neighbouring villages, including Gilmorton, Ashby Magna, Peatlinf Parva and Walcote also feature in this book. The people of these villages are shown at work and at play, in school, in the streets or attending special events.
This book will appeal to all who know Lutterworth and the surrounding area and who would enjoy a nostalgic look at how things used to be.
