Description
Nanotechnology has emerged as a transformative force in food processing that offers new methods to enhance food quality, safety and sustainability by manipulating materials at the nanoscale but there are barriers to the integration of nanotechnology into food processing practices, including limited scalability, high production costs and insufficient consumer acceptance. Research on the long-term safety and environmental impacts of nanomaterials in food systems also remains inadequate and there is a need for a comprehensive evaluation of nano-enabled solutions within the context of sustainability and regulatory frameworks. This book explores the potential of nanotechnology to revolutionize traditional food processing methods and address global challenges such as food security and environmental sustainability. Additionally, the book: Guides readers through the foundational principles of nanotechnology and includes accessible case studies, practical insights and details of recent breakthroughs. Provides an interdisciplinary emphasis that incorporates the discussion of sustainability and considers the importance of regulatory frameworks and risk assessment methodologies. Reviews the potential of nanotechnology within the context of the global food industry and how it can be used to ensure sustainability and the demands of a rapidly growing population. The book examines cutting-edge nanotechnologies and how they can be applied to ensure that nano-enabled food processing aligns with global sustainability goals and consumer safety standards. It further advocates for interdisciplinary collaboration to close any regulatory gaps and maximize the ecological and economic benefits of nanotechnology in food processing.
