Defending India

Even as India concludes the Golden Jubilee celebrations of its independence (1947-97), "Defending India" attempts a comprehensive review of the management of conflicts and challenges to its security during its first half-century as a free country. The book has been authored by a prominent Indian public figure, a parliamentarian, and a senior member of the government in New Delhi. It investigates Indian strategic culture and thought, the evolution of its armed forces, the management of conflicts in the past 50 years, (some 37 in all), and along with examining India's defence expenditure patterns, the author also addresses himself to the challenges that India may face in the future. The book also suggests essential future structural changes. It is aimed at departments of politics, international relations, strategic studies, and Asian studies.
